My file fragment finder (FFF)
There will be times when order gives way to chaos, good files are overwritten and you might think recovery is impossible.
I wrote FFF for that scenario.
It scans every single sector of a drive in search of
files that may be reduced to
mere fragments.
My utility find_file_fragments currently
seeks out files of various types on the specified drive and attempts to
recover them.
It is file system agnostic, because
- You may be scanning FAT, or EXT4 or who knows what.
- It is possible the partition table was erased.
- The file system's structure may have been damaged or destroyed.
I wrote FFF with the reasonable assumption when recovering a found file that
its sectors are contiguous, because more often are than not they are.
This is just alpha code, so there are many areas for improvement.
My LUKS finder
I've included my experimental utility to locate LUKS-encrypted file partitions, just because it is fun. If your partition tables was erased or damaged this can help you find your lost encrypted partition.
